Win, Place, Show

So I visited the Tampa Bay Downs last weekend. My friend Sarah, and her parents were going, so I tagged along with them.  I wasn’t sure what to expect of this place… horses, running, people, betting…. Well, let me tell you…. I LOVE it! Who knew horse racing was so much fun…

First, we checked out the horses, and then we tried to figure out what we were doing by reading the program.

Then, we checked out one of the races.

Funny thing is those horse’ names… Hmmmm I wonder what I would name my horse if I was rich enough to have one.  This Latin Chick Will Kick You In The Face sounds like a nice name! :)

Anyway, not much of a gambler I am, so at first I decided not to bet.  But then I thought “if I don’t get in the game… I will never win”, so I gave it a try.  After checking the odds and choosing the name I liked the best, I made my first $5 bet on this baby right here, #5:

 

I learned that you can bet to win, to place or to show:  To win, the horse you pick must get 1^st place. To place, the horse you pick can get 1^st or 2^nd place, and to show, the horse you pick can get 1^st, 2^nd, or 3^rd place. It is soo exciting to see the horses run (maybe ‘cause I like to run myself, thou not as fast as these guys, obviously).  And, what do you know??? #5 came in 1^st place!

 

Oh I was hooked! 

Next race please!!

For the next race I picked horse #1.  Look at them go!!

OMG #1 won 1^st place!!!  Can somebody say addicting!!!

At 4:00PM we decided to call it a day and go home after race #7 (there were 11 races that day).This is one place I’m definitely visiting again!
